“Her soul is like chiffon, with plenty of tattered rips and tears. The fabric of our souls is thin and worn. We must be gentle and love tirelessly.” - Lanston, p. 207
Have you ever just known that a book was going to be soul crushing and just went for it anyway? Let me sum up this roller coaster in 2 words: emotional damage.
But, would I do it all over again? Absolutely. Hence, why I will be diving into the spinoff of this book - A Ballad of Phantoms and Hope sometime in the very near future.
I’ve never met more tortured souls in a romance story. Wynn Coldfox and Liam Waters have traversed through deep and painful emotional terrain that somehow led them to each other. There is nothing more poetic than your worldly opposite in human form somehow, being your cure. I ached for Wynn and even more for Liam.
Wynn and Liam are both in a rehabilitation center in order to learn ways to cope with and heal from their mental health illnesses. While Liam and Wynn have their own little bubble that just revolves around them, their world is made up of three - Wynn, Liam, and Lanston.
Wynn’s heart belongs to them both, but in different ways.
The three of them are the three musketeers if I ever did see a trio so perfectly aligned by the universe. The universe however doesn’t give without taking something and in this case, the “take” was devastating.
It did take me quite a while to read this book, however that is no fault of the author nor the plotline. I am indeed a fan of both. I had a super busy month in June so the book got put on the backburner. I would advise not letting this one sit and wait for you to crack it open on your bedside table. If you really want to feel that ending then you should definitely read it straight through if possible.
If you are looking for a dark romance story that will keep your heart thumping and your mind reeling, then this is for you. I found some parts of the story to be absolutely seat gripping. K.M. Moronova does such a good job at tying the plot together in the most unique of ways. I have never read a story like this. It’s deliciously devastating and perfect for those who need a grim tale.
