"I am not defined by my childhood trauma. One day, I will heal and be free."
I recently finished Because of You by Kyla Rae and it was a 4.5 star book that wrecked me and I will remember it forever.
I have read plenty of dark romance before and after reading the triggers I decided it was a go. I am a sucker for single parent romance. This was my first time reading a Rockstar romance so I didn’t know what to expect, however I will definitely be reading more of them.
The story follows Declan and Addy. Declan - the MMC who is an addict and makes typical erratic and harmful decisions that impact others. Andy - the FMC, is a single mom from a troubled past, and although she has dealt with addiction, she was not directly an addict. Declan and Andy have very low lows but finally after tragedy, they provide something to each other that they haven’t had before. It is a heartbreakingly raw story.
This situation in this book and the characters themselves resonated with me because I come from a family of addicts. It was interesting to see the dynamic between the couple and relate to an accurate display of addiction. The story was intense because so many of my own feelings were brought up, but in a way it made me feel less alone.
Their story made me cry and the ending was well thought out. I will be reading more of Kyla’s works because this one is sticking with me!
