“Xavier Lasher breaks out of prison with one goal: Claim his nurse, Lauren as his.”

BOYYYYYYY! Shoutout to Author Mae K. Knight for Book 2 of this absolutely UNHINGED DUET. I quite literally had no idea what I was getting into when I hopped into the crazy world that is her mind, but I am OBSESSED.

I originally read and reviewed Book 1 of this duet, and I must say - I’m having a hard time picking my favorite Lasher twin!

This book follows Lauren and Xavier. Xavier is a prison inmate and Lauren is his nurse. If Xavier was going to escape prison… best believe he was not leaving Lauren behind.

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars

My definition of a 5 star read:

10/10 read. Spice hit on all levels. Plot had me absolutely hooked. Happy to add this to my end of year ‘5 star’ list. Very likely a book that I would recommend frequently if asked about the category that it falls under.

“I need you like I need air to breathe. You were literally the rising sun and the setting moon for me since the first time our paths crossed.”

This book is not any less questionable than Book 1 and if that’s up your alley - then give this a go! It is a super dark novella, and while the author makes it clear in the beginning of the book that this is not a plot heavy book… I personally found that the plot added some razzle-dazzle to the story!

The coolest part for me was being able to see the big picture of certain scenes, where I knew what had happened because I read Book 1 first. I love when storylines offer perspective for the reader, while the characters are still in the dark about some things!

For example, certain things that Xavier picks out about his brother Zaine’s house and relationship offers many similarities to how him and Lauren have found themselves intertwined. However, the characters don’t know it yet!

My Spice Rating - 5 Stars

My definition of 5 chili pepper spice rating:

SMUT, SMUT, SMUT! I would give a book a 5 star spice rating if majority (75%) of the book contains sexually explicit content.

This novella had smut galore, okay!? Reading this had me hot and heavy the whole way through. Again, maybe this isn’t a duet that I would recommend for you to read in public LOL!

There is toy play and we loveeeee a man who can incorporate something new and fun in the bedroom!

One of my favorite micro-tropes will always be, IICYIFY (if I catch you, I fuck you), AND GUESS WHAT XAVIER LASHER SAYS Y’ALL?!

“Run, see what happens when I catch you. And make no mistake, I will catch you, doll.”

Just know that there was drool involved when I read this scene. Don’t threaten me with a good time, okay!?

Tropes:

  • Dark Romance Novella

  • Kidnapping

  • Knife Play

  • Inmate x Nurse

  • Found Family

  • Obsessed MMC

  • Primal Play

This book was insane, but definitely an awesome dark romance novella read if you’re looking to get a list together for your, 10 Before The End! If you want to know what I thought of Book 1 - check out my review of Surviving Zaine HERE.
