‘One day, Ofelia Reyes Muñoz, one day I am going to take you away to be free.”

This book was beautiful. Not only because it called to my sweet and dark heart, but it also gave me the yearning and devotion all humans deserve to experience at least once in their lives.

Fabián Cuervo is god disguised as a man. Not literally, but BOY, the way he speaks to Ofelia truly seems like it. And he’s a fan of Edgar Allen Poe’s - The Raven. Where do I get me a man invested in gothic literature? Give me the answers - STAT!

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars

My definition of a 5 star read:

10/10 read. Spice hit on all levels. Plot had me absolutely hooked. Happy to add this to my end of year ‘5 star’ list. Very likely a book that I would recommend frequently if asked about the category that it falls under.

It’s a short and quick read that truly deserves so much recognition. It is based in Mexico and features Latino/a/e characters as well as Indigenous Mexican characters and that representation in dark romance or romance with darker themes is so necessary!

“She danced across the stage like she owned it. She moved like she was weaving desires into the world, like she was the fabricator of every dream that was ever wished. Like she was shooting heart-shaped arrows and capturing every single imaginary audience member within her thrall. Except, she’s captured mine a long time ago.”

The way that the MMC loves the FMC with every single fiber of his being is so precious. His love and admiration for her run so deep. These characters love each other with a passion that you always hope to find, but often only read about. Their story is extremely moving. It’s a sory of how two souls destined to be together fight sll the odds against them in order to escape their reality to be together.

My Spice Rating - 5 Stars

My definition of 5 chili pepper spice rating:

Romance with 5-10 smutty/spicy scenes or mentions of spicy things.

All I know is that Fabián could melt the panties off an ice sculpture, okay?

The car scene? Immediately yes. The grass scene? Also, yes. EVERY SCENE INVOLVING THAT MAN? Just yes all around, alright?

Tropes:

*organized crime
*Romeo and Juliet retelling
*Mexican representation
*rival families

This is Book 1 and I cannot wait to see what happens with Book1. The Raven brothers are truly going to have me in a chokehold!
