Heather Long just gained a lifetime reader just from this one book. I have several books by Heather on my TBR, but I haven’t pushed myself over the edge until Talk To Me showed up on one of my Kindle recommendations and I read the synopsis. The synopsis alone had me ready and chomping at the bits. The story itself put me in a chokehold.
From the synopsis, you have Patch who disappeared from her life one day. In the present time, she helps people over the phone but never gets too close to anyone. Every call she answers until one day she doesn’t.
Let’s be real, I love a good mystery especially when it’s dark and when the story is going to be why choose. I knew I was going to love this story and sure enough, I fell head over heels for it.
Now, onto the story and characters.
The plot of this book was exactly what you gathered from the synopsis. Patch is missing and the people she helps over the phone are immediately concerned and come rushing to the rescue. Eventually, each guy stumbles onto the same information and ends up at the same place at the same time. Except, all three guys have no idea each one of them has also been working with Patch. From here there’s nothing but questions, action, and violence.
The guys in this book immediately won me over. They had never met Patch, but you best believe they were all ready to jump into action to figure out what was going on. They gave up jobs, money, and time. They didn’t care how they found her but that they had to. They had this need to find and protect. AND I ate every bit of that up! Hell, they can come to protect me anytime.
There is nothing I love more than a strong female character and that’s exactly who Patch is. She is one hell of a woman. She is intelligent, strong, and fierce. She went through literal hell and never gave up. The torture that she went through wasn’t as detailed as expected, but with the little bit of information you had, you could assume what happened. I would have folded but Patch meant business.
The only thing that this book lacked was smut. However, I knew this going into the story because the author noted it in the foreword. I don’t think I’ve read a single book that didn’t have any smut in it because I always want smut, BUT this book was perfect without it. They had to find Patch and then Patch had to heal. The little spicy comments here and there were good. HOWEVER, you best believe I’m ready for that smut in the next one.
The most dreadful thing about this book…the cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers with a passion and that could be why I like stand-alone books so much. This cliffhanger left me grasping at the straws and immediately downloading the next one.
The plot, the characters, and the detailed information were perfect. With all the details, I felt like the author did research into all the information regarding the main character's line of work. I thoroughly enjoyed that. Honestly, reading this book felt like watching a movie and I swear it would make a good one. I would say to give this book a try, but read the trigger list beforehand!
